Welcome to the Victorian Legal Admissions Board's short video outlining supervised legal training. When you finish your academic course, you must acquire competency in ethics, lawyer skills and risk management through a course of instruction and assessment conducted by an approved practical legal training provider.

If you have received a foreign assessment, you need to contact our office after you have completed your academic qualifications, and we will open up a foreign SLT application for you.

You cannot commence supervised legal training until your academic studies are completed. However, it is possible to commence supervised legal training prior to graduation.

Supervised legal training is a minimum 12 month period of full-time training with an eligible supervisor. During this time, you'll acquire an understanding of each element of the skills. Values and practice areas.

The following three steps of any SLT must be undertaken within one month of commencing your SLT:

  1. One employer's statutory declaration to be submitted to VLAB for approval.
  2. Two completion of an online training plan.
  3. Three, arrange an academic transcript to be sent to VLAB via My eQuals.

You need to keep an online workbook for the duration of your training. The workbook is an extension of the training plan. Once an element of your training plan has been completed, you can mark it as completed in the online workbook.
